Dont keep still..you might get labelled!

well anyone who has children will most probably relate to this (although i wander if its a girl thing more than boys, because i didnt have it so bad with my son) anyway, toddlers, you know give them a box of crayons..in fact just a pen will do, you could give them an endless supply of paper...but

its still more fun to draw on the floor, walls and furniture, ..oh and themselves, they do eventually grow out of this...then or as it was in my case they discover stickers..and now instead of colouring in your carpet with black permanent marker pen, everything gets covered in stickers....even the poor old dog innocently sleeping his bed!

But they eventually grow out of that too, few years go by and just when you think that your furniture, walls, floors and the family pets are safe some well meaning friend gives my daughter a handheld digital labelling machine with extra cassettes.

I didnt think nothing of it, in fact i thought how handy it would be...

then i got home after working a little later, head straight into the kitchen to start dinner..open the cupboard doors and....

all the cans, jars and bottles that had peelable labels have been stripped of said labels and are now displaying a little strip from the machine saying whats in it....ok i did chuckle..then my son walked in and said "mum..thats not the worst of it..look around" and i did

the dishwasher now proudly displays a label "dishwasher", the kettle..is labelled..yes you guessed it "kettle" and they join the toaster, microwave, coffee machine, fridge heck even the toilet roll holder in the downstairs toilet now knows what it is.

I didnt really want to venture into other rooms to see if they had been attacked as well...mercifully they escaped, after the kitchen and toilet she went upstairs to label her room....

to which i went up to and sure enough there she is with stuff all over her bed, labelling it...i didnt give her too much of a hard time, but i made it clear that at 11 years old she should have thought about really did the kitchen need labelling....we had a giggle..she is still a child after all..but good god whats next

  1. I'm sorry tori, I couldn't help but laugh hysterically at this. My oldest daughter isn't allowed to draw on her walls so she draws pictures or words or whatever her little heart desires and she tapes them and thumb tacks them to her walls. She has one wall that is covered. Oh sticky notes...did I mention sticky notes? And she's 15! But she's creative and it's a way for her to express that without completely destroying the walls...nothing a little putty won't fix after she moves out, right?

Anyway, have fun and I hope the labels stick to your soup cans or you'll be having "luck of the draw" dinners every night until they're gone! lol

  2. that is too cute. don't you love the moments when she acts 'younger'and keeps embracing childhood. My 11 yr old seems so grown for her age. I love the moments she allows down a bit and embraces childhood antics.

    2. thats exactly why i didnt make a huge deal of it because they grow up so fast and what she did was childish antics, mischief...because im sure before too long all that will go out the window lol

  3. Lol!! Oh stickers, don't get me started. My youngest puts stickers everywhere, on me, my beloved piano stool was ruined by them and then I made the mistake of giving her fluorescent star stickers - for the ceiling, except they are everywhere in her bedroom. Switch off the lights and the room glows in strange places.
You're daughter has the makings of a good museum curator :)
How many cassettes has she got left?!

  7. Oh this made me laugh! I hope she labeled the cans well, that could get frustrating.

My daughter makes little signs, labels and decorations for everything. Little bitty coin sized pictures taped all over. I put her in tape restriction a few weeks ago (5 pieces per day lol) and a crucial label was removed by her little "bother". She was forced to label my pretty fabric bin with a sharpie marker. And so we will forever be reminded that the spelling of the word "engines" is not in the skill set of my six year old.

  9. bawahhhahaaaaa

Daddy had one of those. He labels where things go. Yanno, cause someone might think the spoon shaped holder is for forks. Or someone might forget the TV remote is a "remote" and they might not notice the little cubby it belongs in when they finish using it, labeled remote. In matching colors...

When we moved he bought a new label maker because the last one he had vanished...

    Mysteriously.

The spot on the shelf that read "label Maker" was empty!

So he grumbled about insubordinate slaves and bought a new one.

Most people label a box of kitchen stuff...just that kitchen...No, he included contents.

He labeled mouse's toiletry drawer. A spot for brushes, makeup etc. The gasp was audible when mouse just tossed everything inside.

    So good luck...

  10. Well, at least it wasn't duck tape. Our kids got rolls of duck tape from my brother for Christmas (what can I say, my family is odd). So one time when I wasn't looking they covered their rooms and furniture with a spiders web of tape. It looked kind of neat, until I went to take it off and discovered that duct tape takes the finish right off of faux wood furniture, so now they have a bunch of perfectly good furniture, ruined. I was sad.

    1. lol duct tape is very much a boys domain i think, my son and hit mates when younger used to mess around with a lot....but thankfully outside the house and not in.

I dont blame you for being sad..i would be too....they just dont think boys do they.

  11. Haha love it. That sounds like something my daughter would do. It could be worse, a couple years ago my youngest got a hold of an ink cartridge. There was little black handprints all over everything. Walls, furniture, carpet, everything!

Thanks for the laugh. Too funny!

  12. I feel your frustration, and amusment there tori, just add two more to your one and well I am sure you could see how "beautiful" my walls were...and like you they went through their sticker faze, nothing was off limits as far as they were concerned. It went as far as decorating the car, so it was beautified as well. And now they are in the bedazzling everything with glitter and bling faze. I can't wait for the teenage years, (sense the sarcasm) when there will be pictures of their crushes and friends hanging all over the wall...but at least with that one it stays in their room.

Girls are something else, but I would not trade them in for all the riches of the world.
